"I love you but your solution to every problem is to live inside a mountain" — Diane to Ron Swanson

Commissioned for #1 Cartagena, Beth Moysés has created a performance, Desatar tiempos (Untie Times), based on a recurring theme in her work—that of abused and mishandled women, is a performance by twenty women each of whom has suffered some form of violence and has the aspiration of changing her life. Each one will wear a white suit with long sleeves, longer than their arms’ length. Placed in a circle, these women are bound by knots that tie one sleeve to another. Inside of each knot there are small, artificial blood balloons. The point being made is that together they can break the knots, untie themselves, and shake-off the stories that keep them tied, making them a sole victim.
The action has a double meaning: on the one hand the women are united, fighting for a social causeand, on the other, they remain tied, because they are subject to the same behavior and the same story. The artist does not determine the end of the performance. In a structured improvisation, each of the participants contributes to the performance. They can fight, cut, bite, tear—even undue the knot that ties them in time.
Just doing this…

Nada de mi tarea

you know there’s something wrong with our society when they put a rape victim on a cover and have the words SEXUAL REVOLUTION in giant letters over her image and “movement against sexual assault” in tiny letters in the corner
